- Growth: Moderate
- Zone: USDA Zones 9 through 11

- Drought tolerance: Low
- Pests/Diseases: Root rot may occur if it is overwatered.

- Characteristics: This plant will grow to form a mounded, pillow-like shape. Most individuals will only reach around 3 ft in height, although some individuals may reach 5 ft depending on the growing conditions. Leaf stems grow directly from the ground. Each stem has one large leaf, which is glossy green with deep lobes. The flowers are red with white centers.
- Propagation: By stem cuttings
- Facts: This plant contains calcium oxalate crystals, which may irritate the skin if parts of the plant are crushed. Because of this, gloves should be worn when handling the plant, and pets and small children should be kept away from it.
- Designer considerations: It is a popular houseplant for its low maintenance and tropical ambience. It also makes a good low hedge or can serve as a backdrop for more colorful tropical plants.
