  • Pests/Diseases: sensitive to pests and diseases; fusiform rust, Pitch canker, Bark beetles and wood borers, Sawflies, Pine needle miner larvae, Pine needle scale, Pine spittle bug, and Spruce mites.
  • Growing Conditions: easy to grow and low maintenance, little pruning required if any.
  • Characteristics: leaves are arranged alternately, are simple, margins are entire, needle-like shape, 6” – 12” in length, dark green, with parallel venation. Flowers are not showy and yellow in color, Fruit is oval, elongated and cone shaped, 2” – 6” in length, brown and attract squirrels and mammals

  • Wildlife: attracts squirrels and mammals, it provides a habitat for both wild turkeys and white-tailed deer, gray foxes and fox squirrels like to cut open cones to eat the pine seeds.
