  • Width: 4’ – 8’ grows in clumps, each culm is about 1” in diameter
  • Growth: Extremely fast – can reach up to 25’ in 2-3 years (Quicker growth can be expected with more sun and constantly moist soil).
  • Zone: 8A – 11
  • Light Needs: Full to mostly sun
  • Salt Tolerance:  moderate
  • Soil/PH/Texture: it prefers some a mix of composted organic matter such as composted cow manure, peat moss, and native soil, slightly acidic – slightly alkaline (pH 6.1 – 7.8) use natural fertilizer, palm food, or good shrub & tree fertilizer in the spring, summer, and fall.
  • Soil Moisture: average, moist but well drained
  • Drought Tolerance: humidity tolerant
  • Pests/Diseases: resistant to most pests and diseases, ( fungal spots like rust sometimes appear on older plants, Bamboo Mosaic Virus usually from unclean tools from a nursery that is spread, Sooty mold caused from aphids, mealybugs, or scale, Rot issues from overwatering).
  • Growing Conditions: easy to grow and low maintenance, can be controlled by mowing or stepping on the young shoots (new plants are very fragile and easy to destroy).
  • Characteristics: attractive bushy green foliage, tops of the branches gracefully arch, hence the name.
  • Propagation: by dividing rhizomes, bulbs, tubers, or offsets
  • Wildlife: unknown
  • Facts: Graceful plants can be used for arts and furniture, cane pole, crafts, tee pees, and much more.
  • Designer Considerations: use for screening or hedge for privacy, in a corner as a backdrop of a landscape, focal point specimen, for erosion control, and can be a container plant for a patio.
