- Pests/Diseases: usually pest and disease free, watch for mealybugs, scales and aphids and most fungal diseases are caused from too much water or lack of watering.

- Characteristics: known as painted or clumping bamboo, this decorative bamboo has decorative golden stems that look as if they are painted with green stripes and have narrow lance-shaped leaves up to 8” long.

- Facts: one of the most cultivated tropical bamboos in the world, one of the last reported flowering and seed-setting was way back in 1873. Water taken from the boiled shoots is also used as a medicine. The culms have been used for poles in light construction or in making furniture, also used to make baskets, or used as tv-antenna posts (in Central America).
