  • Soil/PH/Texture: grows best in porous, well drained potting mix, slightly acidic soil (around pH 6.5) You can use gravel, decomposed granite, and perlite to help in adding weight and improving drainage.
  • Soil Moisture: rare watering about once a week, allow the top 1” of soil to become completely dry before watering, it is very susceptible to root rot from overwatering.

  • Characteristics: The leaves are laterally compressed, cylindrical in shape and reach a length of 2-4″ in length and 1/4″ wide. The apex is a reddish-brown in color, there are scale leaves on stolons and at the base of its rosettes. The pale greenish white flowers are showy, clustered and reach up to about 1″ in length on a 6″ long raceme. There are usually two flowers on each cluster.
  • Propagation: by division or leaf cuttings, (plant the little plantlets that are produced at the end of each stolon).

  • Facts: This succulent was named after Dr. Peter R. O. Bally, who was a Swiss botanist working at the Coryndon Museum in Nairobi, Africa.
  • Designer Considerations: good in succulent, rock, or cactus gardens that have filtered light. They also make a good container plant or houseplant.
