  • Pests/Diseases: No pests or diseases are of major long-term concern. Root rot may occur in poorly drained soils, rust and powdery mildew may also happen. Also watch for aphids, whitefly and flea beetles.

  • Characteristics: this deciduous plant has green simple leaves that are arranged opposite, are lanceolate in shape, 2” – 4” in length, with pinnate venation. The dark pink, star-shaped flowers bloom in spring, summer and fall.

  • Wildlife: attracts butterflies and hummingbirds plus is deer and rabbit resistant.
  • Facts: Do not move this perennial once it is planted, Gaura has a deep carrot-like root that does not transplant well. Gaura’s long tap root allows it to survive drought situations.
  • Designer Considerations: used for a specimen, in mass plantings, as a border plant, in pots and is suitable for xeriscaping.
